Rooney also flopped as a boss at Birmingham, as Tom Brady and the Blues board let him go after just 83 days at the helm, and the expectation was that the 39-year-old – who helped to analyse Euro 2024 action for television audiences – would take a step back from coaching before returning to the dugout.
DID YOU KNOW?
It has now been revealed that Rooney will form part of Amazon Prime’s coverage of the Champions League. He will make his on-screen debut for the global streaming service when Manchester City face Real Madrid in the first leg of their heavyweight knockout phase play-off tie.
WHAT NEXT?
City will be playing host to reigning European champions Real on Tuesday. Rooney will be back in Manchester for that contest, with offers for the former frontman said to have flooded in since being shown to the door at Plymouth.
