Tottenham Hotspur were dealt a blow recently when one of their targets, Bruno Fernandes, signed a new contract with Sporting as the Portuguese squad have now officially confirmed.
Spurs were reportedly close to snatching the player away during the summer but now, with his improved release clause, they would have to fork out a figure of £85m to land him as opposed to the £65m in his previous contract.
Whether they still plan to chase him next summer or not is unclear but history suggests Daniel Levy will be intimidated by the enormity of his fresh release clause.

Upon seeing this update, however, many Spurs fans expressed their disappointment over their failed summer bid.
But some of them also seem to think that signing that contract was a foolish move from the player and are unsure of his motives while big clubs are prowling around him.
