According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle United are becoming increasingly confident that they will be able to tie up a deal for Chelsea attacker Kenedy in this summer’s transfer window.
What’s the story?
Kenedy joined Newcastle on loan during the January transfer window, and the Brazilian has been a revelation at St James’ Park – scoring twice and providing two assists in nine Premier League matches.
The Magpies are believed to be desperate to keep hold of the 22-year-old this summer, with Chelsea reportedly prepared to sell the former Fluminense youngster.
It had been thought that interest from Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Juventus would make it impossible for Newcastle to tie up a deal.
However, according to the Northern Echo, Rafael Benitez’s side have already held talks with Kenedy over his future, and the Premier League club are confident that the attacker wants to stay.
Indeed, Newcastle are in the driving seat as they currently have Kenedy in the building, which could prove key when the player chooses his next move at the end of the season.
Why are Newcastle so keen?
As mentioned above, Kenedy has been excellent for Newcastle since his arrival in early 2018.
Statistics of two goals and two assists are not exactly sensational numbers, but Kenedy’s overall performance levels since arriving at St James’ Park have been so impressive.
Indeed, his all-action style and commitment to the cause has made him a favourite with the club’s supporters, and there is every reason to believe that he will continue to improve in the coming years.
Indeed, Kenedy will not actually turn 23 until next February, and Newcastle will be able to offer him regular first-team football, which cannot be said for the likes of Arsenal, Bayern and Juventus.
Chelsea might ultimately decide to keep the attacker at the club, but a summer exit is looking increasingly likely, with Newcastle refusing to give up.
