Lots of Liverpool fans have been sharing their joy on social media in Sadio Mane scoring a diving header against Manchester City, after Pep Guardiola accused the Senegal winger of diving.
Mane struck the Reds’ third goal of the game on Sunday afternoon when he headed home past Claudio Bravo in the 51st-minute, following first-half strikes by Fabinho and Mohamed Salah.
It was Mane’s seventh goal in the Premier League this season, and came from his only shot recorded, per WhoScored data. The 27-year-old also registered two key balls amid his 23 accurate passes, accounting for 79% of his total attempts.
No player for either side won possession with more of their tackles than Mane, as he shared a joint-lead in that chart with Fernandinho after breaking up the Sky Blues’ play on four occasions, along with intercepting the ball once.
But for many Liverpool fans, Mane finding the back of the net with a diving header was the key take they wanted to share, after Guardiola suggested he exaggerates contact after being booked for doing such against Aston Villa.
Guardiola also claimed Mane was fortunate to have been awarded a penalty against Leicester City last month, but the Reds attacker hit back by stating he would not change his style of play ahead of facing the Etihad Stadium natives.
