Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has urged midfielder Brett Emerton to build on the confidence gained from scoring the winner in the 2-1 weekend victory at Blackpool.
The 31-year-old Australia international has yet to start a league game for Rovers this season, with Allardyce claiming that Emerton has taken time to recover from his exertions at the World Cup finals.
He told the club's official website:"It has taken him a while to come back and get in the swing of it since the World Cup.
"But he's looking a lot sharper and a lot better I'm glad to say and he's capped that off with a fantastic finish to win the game for us."
Emerton had earlier admitted to being frustrated by his struggles to hold down a regular starting spot, telling the Daily Star:"It has been frustrating for me.
"As a player you always want to be playing, but the boys have been doing a decent job and I recognise that.
"I'm not the sort to go knocking on the manager's door. I try to let my feet do the talking on the pitch, on the training ground and when I get my opportunity."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
