Manchester United have confirmed the departure of manager Jose Mourinho. Having been in charge at Old Trafford since 2016 – winning the Europa League and League Cup in his first two campaigns in the job – the Portuguese now exits the club with the Red Devils mired in sixth place, 19 points in the wake of league leaders Liverpool.
Attention will now turn to who will take up the hot-seat at Old Trafford. Amongst the candidates has to be Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine has worked wonders at White Hart Lane – and latterly Wembley Stadium – to transform Spurs from perennial also-rans into a bona-fide Champions League outfit with title ambitions. The top job at United would be hard to turn down though, and the lack of summer spending at Spurs may have convinced Pochettino that he doesn’t have the full backing of chairman Daniel Levy.
